Additional Info

David Montgomery was invited to the Annual Reception hosted by

Col. Janzen of 40 Commando RM to present the donation for the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund. This year is the 350th Anniversary of the founding of the RM's and the RMCTF have set themselves the challenge of raising 6m.

David explained to the assembled company that the presentation to

Col. Janzen was being undertaken by the Rotary Club of Taunton Vale on behalf of Rotary Charity Fundraisers. One of their fundraisers, Lt David Anderson RN, a serving officer, had nominated RMCTF as his charity whilst participating in Ironman 70.3 UK on Exmoor.

He added that Lt Anderson had served as a Royal Marine before transferring to the Royal Navy and had during the past few years single-handedly raised nearly 30K. He is again raising funds for RMCTF trough RCF but this time he is participating in the full Ironman UK at Bolton in July.

Finally David explained that the Rotary Club of Taunton Vale were involved as they were one of the 8 Rotary clubs who provide over 150 marshals, feed station and car park stewards for the Ironman 70.3 UK event each year.

In accepting the donation on behalf of RMCTF Col Janzen said that he would like to take the opportunity of thanking the people of Taunton for their support of the Royal Marines some of whom, as members of the Rapid Reaction Task Force, were on 24 hours or 4 days notice of deployment which placed a special burden on their families.
