Ironman UK Charity Funds Support Bolton Food Bank
The Rotary Club of Horwich along with the Rotary Clubs of Bolton Lever and Radcliffe staff the Ironman UK feed station at the Beehive roundabout in Bolton each year during the event. As part of the Charity Partner arrangements they are able to nominate local charities for part of the funds raised by the Rotary Charity Fundraisers. This year they chose Urban Outreach (Bolton) as one of their beneficiaries and were able to make the presentation on the Saturday of this year's Ironman UK weekend.
During the day 3,500 items of food were collected from Asda shoppers. Linda Gilmore said "The day went fantastically well, far better than we had hoped for. Rather than donating one item people donated carrier bags of food. This generous donation by Rotary will enable Storehouse to top up the food parcels so that each family receives a balanced parcel."
Each food parcel costs around £19 and feeds a family for a week. Averages of nearly 500 families a week have used food bank vouchers between December and May. Dave Bagley said "People have just been so generous."
